These pictures are of my 2 1/2 days in Venezia, Italy, in late May, 2004, made possible by my friend, Sandy Hugill. I wanted pictures that demonstrated what it was like to be there, so I tried to capture everything I saw, not just the "post card" shots. Looking back at them, I can honestly say that these photos are a very accurate representation of what it feels like to be in Venice (at least the parts I got to see). As for the smell and the sounds, Venice is very similar to your favorite theme park. It's mostly made up of tourists, so almost everyone speaks at least a little English and there is always activity, so it's never quiet. In addition to the wonderful smell of Italian food, there is the water, in which they seem to dump just about anything, so it occasionally hits you with a very "rich" odor. Despite all of that, it's still quite beautiful and if you can look past what we've done to it, you can still feel the romance of a time passed.
